During all these video essays about blackpink lacklustre deadline performance— there’s a special focus on the actual disruptive force of their group chemistry who is Jennie.
While I do think many people are now beginning to hold her accountable over her lack of professionalism for group stages— I think people still give her benefit of doubt for her solo stages: claiming that she does best in that.
I hard disagree.
I think Jennie is a horrible performer. Period. Even for her solo performances she is massively sloppy and takes maximum shortcuts with her choreo. Her posture is bad and she always gets overshadowed by her dancers who exude a lot more charisma and expertise than her. Remember that starlight fancam where she does that very vibrating move?? She just looks pathetic and cringey.
And her expressions my god: she always looks so cringey and at times frightening. My theory is after the whole Getty images that emerged from her Coachella performances— she began to only wear sunglasses to cover up her blank eyes and balance out her weird gummy smile.
And these days idk what happened but she makes it too obvious she’s lip syncing too. Her mouth doesn’t match the intensity of her actual vocals. She literally has to rely on fans to chant the lyrics and barely does any vocal warmups. That weird move she does to shake her chin to appear like she’s singing a hard note is EH.
Overall, i don’t think I would ever even use her present day solo fancams to show off to my friends how cool she is because what she does isn’t really impressive and if I’m being honest— it’s actually laughable. Yeah unlike group stages she doesn’t drag her feet but for her solo stages she has quite a bit of blank moments where you can see she’s plotting what to do next and not living in the moment.
She’s nowhere a good performer. Or a decent one. Her tactics are gonna eventually bore people. She’s already getting bored of her own solo songs to the point she’s screaming her lyrics less and less.
