I love that Loid is Yor’s safe space even if he is faking it.She never got the chance to live a normal childhood. She started killing people and running a household at a young age. I don’t think she went to school (or at least she didn’t make friends and hang out with people her own age growing up). She’s always had to be responsible, dependable, and strong. Yor also holds herself back too often: she holds back her strength so she doesn’t hurt people and holds back her strange personality so people don’t think she’s weird or suspicious.
With Loid, she doesn’t have to do that.
The first time she beats up people in front of Loid, he’s shocked but impressed. When he finds out her “past” (Camila’s story about Yor at hotels), he defends her for working hard to care for her brother and herself. When she does or says something strange, he doesn’t act like she’s weird. When Yor starts making friends, he encourages her to pursue them.
At the start of the story, her only social circle was her brother, Garden, and her coworkers at city hall. Her coworkers at city hall aren’t friendly. They barely seem to tolerate her and will spread nasty rumors about her without a second thought. She is constantly on guard around them. Her brother doesn’t treat her as an equal, and she constantly (unintentionally) hurts him physically or with food. She needs to watch how she acts or what she says so she doesn’t cause him to worry or fly off the handle. Her coworkers at Garden treat her distantly and are willing to kill her the second she becomes a liability.
Loid is one of the few people who can keep up with her in a fight and is strong enough to protect her. She can’t tell him her secret identity, but she can confide in him for more than she can confide in anyone else. Loid might be the first person who can care for Yor and who WANTS to (for the mission). I feel like Yor’s life has been stagnant from the moment her parents died until she met Loid and Anya. She lived for her brother and her work but didn’t care about much beyond that. Now that she has Loid to support her, she’s started trying new things. She’s made new friends, she’s tried new activities, and she’s improving her cooking skills.
I really love Loid x Yor!!
